#8: His First Golf Course Design

#8: His First Golf Course Design

Arnold Palmer left his mark everywhere in golf—even in the dirt.

Palmer's career as a legendary golfer is well known, but he also designed golf courses, with his Arnold Palmer Design Company building more than 300 around the world. The first he designed was Indian Lake Golf Course in Central City, Pennsylvania, not far from his hometown of Latrobe. He finished a cleverly routed nine holes there in 1967, taking the first step in a course design career that saw Palmer create venues for the Ryder Cup and build the first golf course in modern China. With a club in his hand or on a tractor, truly there isn’t a facet of the game that Palmer didn’t touch—and improve.
