#62: The Need for Speed

In a meeting of two hard-charging competitors who always went for it, Arnold Palmer and Richard Petty kicked off the 2008 Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Both were celebrating 50th anniversaries: Palmer won his first Masters in 1958, the same year Petty started racing in NASCAR. Beyond that, both are referred to as "The King" in their respective sports (although Palmer disliked the moniker). Both liked to go fast (Petty on the track and Palmer in the air). Both signed legible autographs. And, after they met, both had cowboy hats with feathers on them—Palmer's was a gift from the seven-time NASCAR champion, and it’s still in his Bay Hill office today.
