#12: Top 3 USGA Titles

Among the numerous “firsts” credited to Arnold Palmer, he was the first to win the USGA’s top three titles, taking the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Open and U.S. Senior Open over his career.

Palmer’s triumph in the 1954 U.S. Amateur started it all, a hard-fought victory that came just seven months after he left the United States Coast Guard and three months before he turned pro. His 1960 U.S. Open win at Cherry Hills is widely regarded as one of the best come-from-behind victories in all of sports, and his 1981 Senior U.S. Open triumph was thrilling as well, with a 51-year-old Palmer taking the event at Oakland Hills Country Club and becoming the first to score the USGA trifecta—a feat matched only by Jack Nicklaus so far.
